| As much as deluxe accommodations provided by Sedona's resorts and inns document Sedona's paradoxical character because they contrast with Jeep tours, hiking, horseback riding, etc., the contrast exhibited by this town's wide variety of restaurants is more striking, perhaps. And don't think that the amazing choice of style, atmosphere, décor and flavor doesn't add to the enjoyment of dining in Sedona – it does!
Want French, Italian, Mexican, classic American, cowboy or Southwestern? You got it! Want indoors, an enclosed porch, patio, deck or creek-side? You got it! Want sophistication, casual elegance, just casual, or come-as-you-are? OK, you got that, too! Want a choice of cocktails, fine wines, name-brand and locally brewed beers? No problem!
In fact, just a listing of Sedona's finest restaurants is an interesting menu, and making a choice is as perplexing as staring amusingly at sparkling wine glasses ready to be gently splashed with Blanc de Blancs, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese.
Certainly, savoring the almost-unbelievable Sunday Brunch at L'Auberge Restaurant is an exceptional dining experience – in fact, Country Inns placed L'Auberge among the top 10 restaurants in United States, and this popular dining room, complemented by Terrace on the Creek, also has been tabbed the No. 2 French restaurant in Arizona.
Guests at Los Abrigados enjoy choosing from among On The Rocks Bar and Grill, which features what management describes as "the best pizzas to go"; Joey Bistro, where fresh pasta, seafood and veal are the favorites; and Steak and Sticks, where prize-winning steaks headline the menu.
At Enchantment Resort, diners enjoy award-winning, Southwestern cuisine in the Yavapai Restaurant, which provides spectacular, 180-degree views of Boynton Canyon. Here, Executive Chef Kevin Maguire creates tantalizing flavors by using unique blends of regional herbs and spices. Enchantment also is home to Tii Gavo, a small restaurant and bar called "the perfect place for intimate gatherings."
Only a few miles away, T. Carl's Restaurant at Poco Diablo Resort features "home cooking" indoors or outdoors, and the resort's other restaurant, Jersey's Sports Grill, has "everything for sports enthusiasts." Meanwhile, guests at Doubletree Sedona Resort in Village of Oakcreek frequent the large patio at The Grille at Shadowrock, which overlooks the lush tees and greens of Sedona Golf Resort. Also in Village of Oakcreek, Wild Toucan – voted "best salsa and hot sauce in the Verde Valley" – is a favorite hangout for golf buffs, locals and tourists. In fact, old-timers at the bar add to the fun.
On the way into Sedona via Hwy 179, Shugrue's Hillside Grill and Javelina Cantina are located at Sedona Hillside, just before the bridge over Oak Creek – and across the bridge, René and El Rincon are tucked into beautiful Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. Shugrue's, which often features live jazz, specializes in seafood, rack of lamb and spectacular views; Javalina Cantina, a great gathering place, serves "Sonoran-style Mexican food with a Southwestern flair"; René presents favorite American and continental dishes in a cozy, romantic setting; and El Rincon offers "Arizona-style" Mexican cuisine inside or on a patio under giant sycamore trees.
Uptown, Cowboy Club is where "High Desert Cuisine" goes hand-in-hand with Old West tradition and hospitality. This is where Sedona's early settlers told tall tales, where the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America was organized in 1965 and where The Silver Saddle Room, an elegant Western dining room, has been labeled "Red Rock Country's newest tradition."
Across the street, another L'Auberge restaurant, The Orchards, features delicious salads, sandwiches and pizzas in a casual setting -- and up the street, residents and visitors enjoy fantastic, deli-style treats at Wendeli's, as well as 100 different kinds of muffins with gourmet coffees at Sedona Coffee House.
Just beyond, almost at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon, guests enjoy a vast selection of Mexican and Southwestern entreés, plus awesome panoramic views, at Oaxaca Restaurant & Cantina. A few blocks west, on Jordan Road, Takashi is an intimate, small restaurant that features an extensive offering of great Japanese entreés.
In West Sedona, Rainbow's End, a historic tavern converted into a "locals" favorite' steakhouse, features "good grub, Western music and country dancing." Closer to the uptown area, Casa Rincon & Tapas Cantina's fare, described as "Grandé Hacienda-Style Family Dining" is served with Old World ambience – and this large restaurant's cantina features live entertainment and dinner shows. And rounding out this impressive collection of stylish restaurants is Sam and Rosanne Troia's very popular haunt for Italian creations, Troia's Restaurant – "where amoré is the condiment of choice!"
Enjoy! |
